Ian Werden to try on his Mike Joyce hat....
Saturday's (7/12) 40 Watt all-tribute show starts out with Bigmouth, a band paying tribute, homage, whatever to British under-the-weather sensations The Smiths. The band's lineup includes singer Alex Divine, guitarists Peter Keane and Brian Smith (The Curl), bassist Benji Barton (Boulevard) and drummer Ian Werden (Slackdaddy). You'd be surprised how much Divine's voice matches Morrissey's mopey honking.

New
Haxan Films Project Likely Using Athens Music
Haxan Films, the company that was responsible for The
Blair Witch Project a few years back, is working
on a new film tentatively called @lien. The film,
written by a former Athenian, should have Athens music
as a key component. On May 30, a scene was filmed at
artist Stan Mullins' warehouse that featured Jackpot
City as the house party band and what appeared to
be a Slackdaddy shirt on one of the characters.
Additionally, a number of Athens bands have been asked
for usage rights to songs for at least the festival
screening of the film and possibly more. Band stickers,
flyers and CDs should also make cameos throughout the
film as well. Thanks, Haxan, for coming up our way.
